Today's kids have practically been born with either a mouse and keyboard in their cribs, or holding a touchscreen mobile device. And with all of the entertainment available in the palm of their hands thanks to today's technology, the days of "I Spy" in the car are quickly becoming a thing of the past.
Unless, of course, there is an app for that too.
And with kids seemingly so caught up with using electronics as a source of entertainment and distraction, ear buds can be a godsend for moms and dads.
Take a family we know. The mom is a school teacher and takes her kindergarten-aged child to school with her each morning - a one-hour commute one way. As the child loves electronics, they have a system where he gets to use her iPod Touch in the car to play games. Meanwhile, the mom has an iPod Classic that has various audio books stored on them, and she puts the ear buds in her ears and enjoys her own form of entertainment. The child can have the sounds of the games and she can hear her audio books, and the two of them can still converse with each other as needed.
Never underestimate the power of a good set of ear buds. They can help keep a parent's sanity from jumping out of the car at freeway speed.
